Coal India Limited

Coal India Limited (CIL) is the world’s largest coal mining company, owned and operated by the Government of India under the Ministry of Coal. Incorporated in 1975, CIL is responsible for the production and supply of coal to meet India’s growing energy demand. The company operates through its network of eight wholly-owned subsidiary companies spread across India, managing over 80 mining areas consisting of both underground and opencast mines. CIL’s operations predominantly support the thermal power sector, which accounts for the majority of the country’s electricity generation needs.
